This just about me, randomly showing off the CDs I bought. As you may know, I’m a CD collector. I love them. They are for me the best way to listen to music and even though it gets more and more difficult to get new stuff on CDs, I still have a chance to fill gaps in my collection, thanks to eBay and Co.

This week I got in the mail:

20220114_175404Höhner feat Hans Nieswandt, Justus Köhnke, Mathias Schaffhäuser – Die Karawane zieht weiter (Club Sand)

Where do I start with that one? Open-mouthed smile (De) Höhner are a popular comedy band from Cologne and DIE KARAWANE ZIEHT WEITER was a huuuuuuuuge hit for them, back in 1998. It’s one of those songs, that are played over and over every carnival season and even re-enters the charts every few years. And for some reason I didn’t know until a few weeks ago, that in 2000 a really cool Remix single came out.

Nieswandt and Köhnke turn the song into a groovy House track, that makes you realize how well done the vocal parts of the original are. And they obviously had fun remixing it. They even drop a bit of FROM: DISCO TO: DISCO into it. Schaffhäuser’s version is more of an Electropop coverversion, but also really worth it.

Bob Sinclar – Ich rocke

20220114_175341Maybe my favourite Sinclar track, although I seem to be the only one who still plays it. Why so serious, DJs? Anyway, this one has a really impressive line-up of remixers. Turntablerocker, Thomas Schumacher, International Pony and Egoexpress! Only Turntablerocker completely re-invent the track, while the others take a more tradition remix approach, but it’s definitely a single worth owning.

Puretone – Addicted To Bass

20220114_175431One of those cases where I have no idea why I didn’t buy it back in the days. Nothing too interesting on the remix front, but the track itself is still a motherfucking banger!

Deichkind – Electric Super Dance Band

If you don’t know Deichkind, well, how can I describe them? They started out as fun, but not too outstanding German20220114_175452 Hip Hop act, then re-invented themself as, well Electric Super Dance Band. Imagine Black Eyed Peas during their EDM phase, only purposely silly and with more beer and pogo sticks. I remember how they appeared on TV in a song contest with this one and nobody knew what to think of it. It was so different from everything they made before. They came in at the last place! Today they are filling stadiums and “I don’t like their music, but I love their shows” is a normal thing to hear.

The single has a few cool remixes, that are surprisingly more guitar heavy and turn the song into an alternative rock song. TokTok (who made the only true dance remix), Jansen & Kowalski and Illvibe & Berger did their thing. Also as bonus track we have the chill SILBERWEIDENPARK, which is also on their AUFSTAND IM SCHLARAFFENLAND album.

Die Raketen – Tokyo, Tokyo (…ey Mädchen)

20220114_175516I don’t really have much to say about Die Raketen. That’s the only song I know from them. It got a lot of airplay, but apparently only made it to #88 in the German top 100 and left them after 2 weeks. It was a bit of a club hit, if I remember right. Sound- and lyricswise it feels like either a homage or a parody of the Neue deutsche Welle sound of the 80s. Haven’t listened to the remixes yet, but one is by Tobi Neumann.

Mikolajewicz – Sven die Gondeln Trauer tragen

20220114_175307Here we have another example of the weird phenomenon of German Hip Hop artist who get into electronic music. (See also: International Pony, Moonbootica, Visit Venus, etc) Sven Mikolajewicz was a member of the at times wonderfully absurd rap group Fischmob, which, by the way, also DJ Koze was a part of! A remix of his single ERNTE 23 got lots of music channel airplay, thanks to its funny Playmobil video, but the album is more on the chill side, than the single makes it seem. I bought it blind and so far it’s the most listened CD of this pile, although I gotta admit that it’s not the most innovative one.

Big Dumb Face – Duke Lion Fights The Terror!!

20220114_175237I stumbled across this band by pure accident. And by “pure accident” I mean that Spotify randomly played one of their songs. Turned out it’s a side project of the facepainted guy from Limp Bizkit, but what we got here is more weird and silly than that band. I mean, one of their songs is called MIGHTY PENIS LASER, so they obviously live up to their name. But it’s a fun album. The songs are pretty catchy and cover a variety from Death Metal to Country. It’s definitely a fun album to listen to.

A-Ha – Celice (Remixes)

20220114_175202Released in 2005, I don’t think it’s the best known A-Ha song, but the remixes are awesome! Trance is not one of my favourite genre, but I don’t hate it and Paul van Dyk’s Vocalized Clubmix is a track, that you can play loud without feeling ashamed. I think Trance really needs more electric guitars in general. The other Paul van Dyk remix on the single is okay, a bit more typical Trance, but the vocals fit in with the overall vibe. Harder are the remixes from Thomas Schumacher and Boris Dlugosch. Both give it a more Techy vibe.

Time for the final brag: Here is the current worth of my collection, according to Discogs.
