If you are a 90s Rave kid and lived in Germany or its surrounding countries, the chances are good that you remember HOUSEFRAU. If not: It was a weekly House/Techno centric magazine, that ran on the German music channel VIVA and was hosted by Sabine Christ and Mate Galic. And as it turned out, a bunch of full (sometimes without commercials or certain music videos) episodes made its way onto YouTube!
Now, this show is VERY 90s. The fashion, the constantly moving handheld camera. the always the same looking low budget videos with random computeranimations, you will either love it as a warm dose of nostalgia or cringe yourself to death within less than 15 minutes. But it’s also a really fun time capsule. You will hear tunes that you either forgot a long time ago or haven’t heard before and see a bunch of DJs and producers who either retired a long time ago or are still going strong. WestBam is there. And in episode you see a young Carl Cox, standing to Mark Spoon (RIP). Liam Howlett from THE PRODIGY introduces the world premiere (as they say) of the clip for NO GOOD.
The funniest parts however are for me, when the hosts first introduce a video with the typical “Yeah, this is awesome!” music television enthusiasm, just to switch in the same sentence into bored: “But it’s another commercial bullshit track. The scene is selling out more and more every day” mode. Well, some things have never changed.
You will be definitely entertained IMO and I hope more people will check their old VHS tapes for stuff like that.
Have a great day!
